Professor Anthony Leicht

Sports and Exercise Scientist and Academic (QLD)

Anthony Leicht is an experienced academic and exercise scientist with >25 years of tertiary teaching experience. He is an experienced researcher with expertise and an international reputation in human performance including the assessment of performance and physiological responses to exercise/sport/occupational tasks. His research foci have involved cross-sectional and longitudinal studies examining human physiology and performance of elite athletes, healthy adults, and those with chronic disease states. He is a Fellow of Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA), European College of Sport Science and Sports Medicine Australia (SMA). He chairs accreditation review panels of sport and exercise science university programs for ESSA and is/has been a Board member of several local/national organisations.

Deputy Chair

Professor Ebonie Rio

Sports Physiotherapist and Academic (VIC)

Ebonie is a Sports Physiotherapist at the Victorian Institute of Sport, The Australian Ballet, and she consults to multiple AFL, Rugby, elite Soccer and Basketball clubs. She is the Senior Research Fellow at The Australian Ballet, a joint position with La Trobe Sport and Exercise Medicine Research Centre. Ebonie co-leads activities in the High Performance 2032+ Strategy in Research and Innovation. Additionally, Ebonie sits on the Scientific Advisory Committee for Little Big Steps, a children’s charity that aims to increase physical activity in children undergoing cancer treatment to improve quality of life. Ebonie co-chairs the International Scientific Tendon Symposium and was former Sports Medicine Australia Conference co-chair.

Her clinical career has included the Australian Institute of Sport, The Australian Open, Australian Ballet School, Melbourne Heart football club, Commonwealth Games 2006, 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, 2010 Singapore Youth Olympics, 2012 London Paralympics, 18 months travelling with Disney’s The Lion King stage show and she was awarded the Post-Graduate Scholarship at the AIS (2007).  She has completed her Phd in tendon pain, Masters Sports Phys, Ba. Phys (hons) and Ba. App Sci.  Her clinically focussed research has been awarded Victorian Fresh Scientist of the year 2015, ASICS SMA Best New Investigator 2004, 2013 & 2014 in Clinical Sports Medicine, best clinical science Pain Adelaide 2013, BJSM young investigator Best Clinical Paper 2014 and the Professor Mollie Holman medal for the best thesis of the faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences Monash University 2015 and the ECR best paper 2015.

Professor Belinda Beck

Exercise Science (QLD)

Belinda Beck is a Professor of Exercise Science at Griffith University (Gold Coast, QLD) and the Menzies Health Institute Queensland. Her work, primarily related to the effects of mechanical loading on bone, has involved both animal and human models, from basic to clinical research. Her particular focuses have been exercise interventions across the lifespan for the prevention of osteoporotic fractures, and the management of bone stress injuries in athletes and military recruits. She is founding Director of The Bone Clinic, a translational research facility and clinical practice providing evidence-based exercise (Onero) for people living with osteoporosis. She is a Fellow of Sports Medicine Australia (SMA), the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and Exercise Sports Science Australia (ESSA). She is Chair of the ESSA Research Committee and has served on the SMA QLD State Council and SMA and ESSA Conference Program Committees.

Craig Keary

CEO & Board Director (NSW)

Craig Keary is the Chief Executive Officer of Raiz Invest Limited (ASX: RZI), an ASX-listed financial services and investment platform, and an experienced company director with more than 30 years of leadership experience across financial services, technology, wealth management and regulated businesses in Australia and internationally. Throughout his career, Craig has held senior executive roles including CEO of Selfwealth, CEO Asia Pacific of Ignition Advice, and Managing Director Asia Pacific at AMP Capital, leading large-scale businesses, transformation programs and growth initiatives across multiple markets. Craig has significant international experience, having lived and worked in Tokyo and London, and has led businesses and teams across Australia, Asia and the United Kingdom. He is recognised for his strategic leadership, strong governance focus and commitment to delivering positive customer and stakeholder outcomes.

Craig is also Chair of Lymphoma Australia and a Director of Sports Medicine Australia. He brings extensive experience in governance, strategy, risk management and organisational growth gained through executive and board roles across ASX-listed companies, private businesses and not-for-profit organisations. He is passionate about helping organisations strengthen their impact, foster innovation and create sustainable outcomes for members, patients, communities and stakeholders.

Craig is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Certified Chair through the Advisory Board Centre, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and a Master Practitioner Member of the Stockbrokers and Investment Advisers Association. He is committed to supporting initiatives that improve health, wellbeing and participation outcomes for Australians and is proud to contribute to the important work of Sports Medicine Australia in promoting safe and active participation in sport at all levels.

Professor Luke Kelly

Podiatrist, Sports and Exercise Scientist, Academic (QLD)

Luke Kelly is an Professor of Allied Health Research and Director of the Australian Centre for Precision Health & Technology, at Griffith University. He is a trained podiatrist (QUT) with a PhD in Biomechanics and Motor Control (University of Queensland). Luke served on the SMA conference committee from 2015 to 2024, co-chairing the committee from 2021 to 2024. He was previously a Director and Vice-President, Sports and Exercise Podiatry Australia (2017- 2024) and is currently an elected member of the Executive Council for the International Society of Biomechanics.

Dr Samantha McLeod

Sport and Exercise Psychologist, Clinical Health Psychologist (VIC)

Dr Samantha McLeod is dually Endorsed practitioner and AHPRA approved supervisor in Sport and Exercise Psychology and Clinical Health Psychology and a long-term member of SMA. She is an APS Fellow of both the College of Sport & Exercise Psychology and the College of Health Psychology, and member of the International Society of Sport Psychology (ISSP) and the Applied Association of Sport Psychology (AASP).

Her Ph.D researched the psychological predictors of injury risk and recovery in professional athletes. Samantha has decades of guest lecturer experience teaching within undergraduate and post-graduate tertiary courses across multiple disciplines (psychology, physiotherapy, medical, public health and sports medicine.

Samantha has been self-employed in private practice and managed her high-performance sport and clinical health consultancy company for over 30 years. She is also the Founder and Executive Director of The SAM Centre.

She is an experienced clinical leader within sport and health peak bodies (previously TAC Clinical Panel, WorkSafe Medical Panel, APS Private Practice Senior Project Officer), supervisor (academic and peers), former Chair (WNBL Melbourne Boomers, APS Steering Committees) and business mentor.

Samantha’s current sports consultancies include, AFL Richmond Club Psychologist, AIS (Psychology Peer Supervisory Network – Supervisor), FIBA (Mental Health Committee Advisor to Medical Commission), New Zealand National Basketball Team (2DegreesTall Ferns), VIS Performance Psychologist (Swimming),

Samantha’s mission is to shift the paradigm of performance health to better serve the people who drive high performance, as well as the athletes or workforce. She believes in a holistic, integrated, and collaborative performance health framework that makes human wellbeing and potential the priority and driver of success. Samantha aims to empower leaders, performers, practitioners and organisations to thrive—not just during their careers, but also when they transition out of the sport, work or business.

Associate Professor Ian Murphy

Sport and Exercise Physician (NSW)

Ian Murphy is an experienced Sport and Exercise Physician with a wide range of clinical and non-clinical experiences in health. He obtained Fellowship of the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians (ACSEP) after training in both New Zealand and Australia.

This has led onto a number of roles with a range of sport and recreation organisations culminating in holding appointments as the Chief Medical Officer for both New Zealand Rugby and New Zealand Cricket concurrently for a period of time.

More recently he shifted his career focus to public health system leadership, firstly as the Chief Medical Officer at Te Whatu Ora – Whanganui in New Zealand and most recently in the Illawarra Shoalhaven region of New South Wales.

He now finds himself at the University of Wollongong where he leads the Professionalism and Leadership program at the Graduate School of Medicine while also working as the Medical Advisor to Sport Integrity Australia.

He has interests in a wide range of health-related topics, from clinical governance and its application in the sporting context, to the expansion of scope of practice for allied health practitioners, and to concussion which has occupied a significant proportion of his professional time.

He brings deep expertise in strategic finance, governance uplift, and corporate transformation, shaped by senior roles at Medibank, Jemena, HSBC, and several local councils in recent years.

Passionate about building better-connected and thriving communities, Liam blends analytical rigour with constructive solutions to uplift teams, strengthen sustainability and ultimately deliver values-driven impact alongside the community he serves.
