SMA speaker fee guidelines

SMA is a not-for-profit and charitable association led by its members for the benefit of the community, and to support and advance our Sports Medicine. Our Vision is enhanced health for all Australians through knowledge, training and safe participation in sport, exercise and physical activity.

We acknowledge that only a multidisciplinary approach to professional education can help us achieve this Vision, and so we rely on our broad membership for support of our professional education events. Speakers and presenters for our events are primarily sourced from within our membership and in the spirit of furthering our Vision, we encourage our members to donate to provide their time when presenting at SMA events.

Speaker Fees

SMA encourages all speakers to support the industry by opting to donate their fee to the SMA Research Foundation. The Foundation supports emerging and early career researchers engaged in sports medicine and lifestyle disease prevention research.

Speakers can opt to request payment. Fees are outlined as below. All amounts include GST.

Online events (1 – 2.5 hours)
For the duration of the event, including Q&A.

  • SMA Members – $150
  • Non-Members – $100

In person events (symposia or workshops)
For the duration of the event, including Q&A.

  • SMA Members – $200
  • Non-Members – $150

Payment of fees

Fees will be paid via direct bank transfer. Speakers are to provide an invoice to SMA for speaker fee payment, which includes:

    • Date and name of event
    • Bank details for payment transfer
