Dr Ken Fitch awarded Officer of the Order of Australia

Sports Medicine Australia would like to congratulate SMA Life Member Dr Ken Fitch on being awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia (OA) on January 25, 2021 “For distinguished service to sports medicine at the national and international level through a range of roles, and to medical education”.

Dr Ken Fitch has dedicated his working life to the field of sports medicine. During his time in sports medicine, he has become a world leader and a great contributor in the field of anti-doping.

He has served in the Olympic Games for both the AOC and IOC. His Olympic service began with the Australian Olympic Team in Munich in 1972 and later became the chief physician from 1975 to 1984. As well as this, Dr Ken Fitch Chaired the AOC’s Medical Commission for many years.

Dr Ken Fitch has been an SMA member since 1963 and has since become a Foundation Fellow and Life Member. His involvement with SMA has been paramount in shaping sports medicine throughout Australia and around the world.

His work is greatly admired by many in the sports medicine field as he has continuously delivered exceptional service to the greater sports medicine community in Australia.
