FAQs for Advertisers

How do I create an account?

When you post an event, you can pay a fee for a single advertisement or you can sign up as an SMA Associate for $99 per annum, which comes with unlimited advertising access for your events on Sports Trainer Connect.

How do I post an event?

It’s easy. Go to the ‘Sports Trainer Connect’ page on sma.org.au and select ‘Post an Event’.

How do I manage my event listing? Can I edit listings after posting?

Once you have posted your ad, you will receive an email with a link to give you access to edit or close your ad.

How do I advertise an event that goes over multiple days?

When entering an event that covers multiple days:

  • Enter the first day under ‘Event start date time’
  • Enter the last day under ‘Event end date time’

Provide your coverage requirements for entire event, including number of participants and number of Sports Trainers required.

Include as much detail as possible about the event in the ‘Description’. For example, number of fields or courts, and types of matches or sports being played across the entire event.

How long will my event stay active?

Once approved your event will be live until your nominated ‘end date and time’. You can also cancel your ad before this date.

How will I be alerted when a Sports Trainer makes an offer to service my advertised event?

You will be notified via email when a Sports Trainer applies. The email will include their experience, qualifications, expected rate and contact details. You are responsible for contacting applicants about your event.

Do all Sports Trainers listed on the platform hold a current SMA Sports Trainer accreditation and relevant insurance?

While SMA takes reasonable steps to validate the accreditation and insurance status of Sports Trainers, we do not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of this information. Advertisers must conduct their own due diligence when selecting a Sports Trainer for their event.

What is the difference between an SMA Level 1 Sports Trainer and Level 2 Sports Trainer?

The SMA Level 1 Sports Trainer accreditation is an entry level qualification. Currently accredited Level 1 Sports Trainers will have received education in concussion management, sports taping (ankle, finger and thumb), transport of the injured athlete, nutrition and hydration and drugs in sport.

Level 2 Sports Trainers are more experienced, having completed in excess of 50 hours of experience in the role. They are proficient in all Level 1 Sports Trainer content as well as advanced sports taping (knee, shoulder, elbow and achilles), spinal injury management, sports massage, wound management and athlete wellbeing and mental health.

How many Sports Trainers do I need for my event?

There are various factors that would influence the number of Sports Trainers required for an event including the size of the event (number of fields of play, etc.), number of participants, and the types of activities involved (contact vs non-contact).

For smaller events with fewer participants, one or two Sports Trainers may be sufficient. However larger events may require a team of Sports Trainers. If uncertain, discuss your specific needs with us so we can recommend the appropriate number of Sports Trainers to cater to your event.

What should I pay a Sports Trainer?

Sports Trainers can set their own service fees upon their level of experience, qualifications and the nature of the event. As the advertiser, you can set an appropriate fee for service based on those various factors. SMA does not provide guidance on rates of remuneration.
