SMA is pleased to announce the online QLD event, ‘Scrum Strong – Scrummage Safety in Rugby’.

This event will offer delegates an opportunity to understand the fundamental principles of safe and effective scrummaging and consider tools to improve safety and maximise performance at scrum time. Hear from former professional rugby player, Coach, Educator and Author, Sam Needs, and learn skills developed through first-hand on-field experience and scholarly compilation, and implemented by elite coaches worldwide.

This event is only available online via Zoom. Clayton James will be the MC.

This event is free for SMA Members and $20 for Non-Members.

Sam Needs is a former professional rugby union front rower turned coach who played for the NSW Waratahs, Melbourne Rebels and Kamaishi Seawaves in the Top Challenge League in Japan.  

Sam is an Accredited World Rugby Educator, World Rugby Level 3 Coach, Rugby Australia Front Row Passport Assessor and Coach Assessor. 

Sam is the current scrum coach for the NSW Waratahs W, Warringah Rugby Club, and St Augustine’s College and a scrummage consultant to professional players and teams internationally. 

In 2018 Sam founded Scrum Strong to fill an education need in the world of scrummaging, now providing education on how to perform as a player, and best coach players to scrummage safely and effectively.
