Over the counter drugs: when to recommend, topical vs oral medications, risks and side effects, and scope of practice

Common prescription drugs: concerns for exercise, tissue healing, and mental health, and common side-effects which might present in clinical practice.

Injections: When to use clinically; implications for other clinicians involved in the management of an injury; risks, side-effects and cost.

Lauren Lambert is currently the Senior Perioperative Pharmacist at the Alfred Hospital and has worked in a variety of settings, with over six years experience in community and hospital. Tertiary education includes a Bachelor of Medical Science, Master of Pharmacy and Master of Clinical Pharmacy to be completed in 2018. Her current focus is optimising medicine outcomes for patients undergoing surgery and promoting the safe, effective and evidence based use of medicines within the perioperative and pain services.

Michael is a General Practitioner with an interest in Sports and Exercise Medicine. He practices at Fitzroy Street Medical Centre in St Kilda, where he works closely with a multidisciplinary team of Allied health professionals at Melbourne Physio Pilates and Fitness Group. He has a passion for Rugby Union and is a head injury analyst for the Melbourne Rebels.

Susan is a Specialist Sports and Exercise Physician who has been practicing at Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre in Melbourne for over 20 years and at SEM physicians in Brighton.

She has been to multiple Paralympic, Olympic, Commonwealth Games and World Championships in roles ranging from Team Physician to Medical Director as well as Organizing Committee and Anti-Doping Coordination. She has been a member of Australian Olympic and Paralympic Medical Committees. She has been CMO for Australian Netball, Swimming and Victorian Rowing.

She was an inaugural member of the Australian Sports Drug Medical Advisory Committee in 1999 and has served on this Committee since, becoming the Chair in 2013. She is also a member of the AIS Supplement Panel. Susan is on WADA’s Therapeutic Use Expert Group, and has had previous roles with FINA’s Doping Control Review Board and the International Paralympic Committee

Susan is on the Editorial Board of CJSM and BJSM and is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at Monash University in Melbourne. In 2016 she was awarded a Fellowship of Monash University.
