Sports Medicine Australia is thrilled to present the upcoming event in Victoria “It’s a Shoe Thing: The Ins & Outs of Running Shoes ”.

This is a face-to-face ONLY event and will take place at Bared Footwear’s Melbourne CBD store.

Join Sophie Fitt, Chris Wight and Rick Osler on the night as they discuss the science and art of running shoes, including: 

  • How to choose a shoe 
  • The Future of Running Footwear 
  • Using shoes as therapy: shoewear for injury 

This event is $25 for SMA Members and $75 for Non-Members. 

This event will be held from 7:30pm to 9:00pm AEST. Delegates are requested to arrive by 7:00pm for a 7:30pm start.

Speakers

Sophie Fitt is an experienced podiatrist and director at Fitzroy Foot and Ankle Clinic. 
She enjoys all aspects of podiatric practice, with a particular interest in musculoskeletal and sports related injuries. Outside of the clinic setting, Sophie is qualified to assist in podiatric foot and ankle surgery.  
 
Sophie is a competitive distance runner herself, having finished 7 marathons in under 2:50 with a personal best time of 2:42:45.  
Through her many years immersed in the sport of distance running, Sophie has come to connect with runners of all abilities, and it’s with her extensive knowledge and experience in the sport that she is able to diagnose, treat and manage the many and varied complaints of the lower limb and foot, that present in her patients.  
Sophie is able to carefully manage her patients through their injuries and expertly guide them back to a full training load.  
 
Her passion for treating athletes is not limited to distance runners, but indeed all people who strive to improve their health and quality of life through physical activity.  

Chris Wight opened The Running Company in Clifton Hill in 2014 after spending a couple years working and learning from Scott Nicholas at TheRunning Company Geelong. He comes from a background in Engineering and uses this experience to take an analytical and science based approach to helping runners and walkers of all abilities enjoy their running and stay healthy.
