“Introduction to Sport Psychology: How to get the most out of your athlete” In 1.5 hours we will cover the importance of psychology to performance, the role of the support team and their use of “trainer/therapist/medic – talk” as what you say and when you say it can have a massive impact on your athlete(s), and we’ll touch on how to constructively influence their motivation and goals.
Vicki Aitken (BA, PGDipPE, MPhEd – BASES Member) has worked in the field of sport psychology for over 22 years. From 2001 – 2007 inclusive Vicki was the official sport psychology provider to the Ladies European Tour (professional golf tour). Vicki has worked with golfers on all the main tours and at elite amateur through to club levels. She has worked with elite tennis academy players; worked with an ANZ level Netball team; Provincial Rugby Unions development academies; paralympic wheelchair basketballers, state/provincial and national rep cricketers; as well as racing car drivers through to remote control aerobatic flyers to name a few. Vicki worked at the NTIS when the resident sport psych was on maternity leave twice. Vicki has published two books: one with a colleague Dan Weigand called “Caddy-Talk: Psychology of Being a Great Golf Caddy” and more recently by herself “The Leading Edge: Psychology of Being a Great Golfer.”
