Sports Medicine Australia (SMA) is proud to present Drugs In Sport – a live and interactive webinar presented by Sports Science (Physiology) PhD Candidate at the University of Western Australia (UWA) and Australian Javelin athlete Cruz Hogan with support from the Western Australian (WA) Government.

This 90-minute interactive presentation will provide a great insight into the role that Sport Integrity Australia play in Anti-doping and explain the recent changes in this realm. The webinar will also cover the responsibilities of athletes, coaches & support staff in anti-doping, the use of drugs, medications & supplements by athletes, anti-doping violations & bans, drug testing protocols and feature a number of interesting case studies. As an athlete himself, Cruz will provide a firsthand perspective into the controversial topic of Drugs in Sport.

This webinar is free to all Western Australian attendees thanks to support from the WA Government.

Speakers

Cruz is an Australian Javelin Thrower and Sports Science (Physiology) PhD Candidate at the University of Western Australia (UWA). In his athletic career, Cruz has previously competed nationally and internationally as a Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) scholarship holder for over 8 years. He is also a 5-time Open State Champion and previous Open National Championship Medallist. In his professional career, Cruz has over 5 years’ experience working in high-performance sport environments providing sport science and physiology servicing across a wide-range of Olympic-based sports. During his applied PhD research, Cruz has also presented at various national and international conferences and has published numerous research papers in sport science journals. Cruz also works with Sport Integrity Australia (formerly ASADA) as a Clean Sport Educator and has facilitated many educational seminars on anti-doping, supplements, match fixing, ethics in sport & illicit drugs for school students through to world-class elite athletes.
