SMA is pleased to be partnering with Sydney West Sports Medicine (SWSM) for a number of professional development events in 2019, starting off with this January event – ‘Differential Diagnosis of the Foot and Ankle.’
This evening seminar, presented by physiotherapist, Nadine George, will focus on common sporting injuries of the foot and ankle, including:
- Mechanisms of injury
- Clinical presentation – signs you would be looking for in a gait assessment (where relevant), what the patient reports about their pain experience and where the pain would specifically present.
- Differential diagnosis – diagnosing conditions such as plantar fasciitis, heel spur syndrome, Baxter’s nerve impingement
- When investigations are indicated e.g. X-rays, US and MRIs
- Rehabilitation principles for foot and ankle injuries
Nadine graduated from the University of Sydney and has spent her career working in the private sector both in Australia and the U.K. prior to working at Sydney West Sports Medicine.
Currently, Nadine is working with the Sydney FC Women’s Soccer team and assists with injury management and prevention both at training sessions and in the clinic. She has previously worked with Hockey NSW state teams, Western Sydney Wanderers Women’s Soccer team, the national Water-Ski Racing team, Guildford Owls Rugby League, Parramatta Eels Junior Rugby League and the Eastwood-Ryde Netball Association. As a result of her work with sport, she developed a passion for managing acute sporting injuries. In particular, she is interested in the management of acute injuries of the knee and ankle, along with pain and restriction in the thoracic spine.
Nadine employs a very hands on treatment approach as well as implementing individualised physio exercises to restore function and optimise the recovery of her patients. Nadine strives to continually improve her skills and knowledge, completing various courses in the management of sporting injuries.
