Sports Medicine Australia is Australia’s peak body for sports medicine and sports science. At a community level SMA is responsible for creating a safe playing field in which all Australians can actively and freely participate. The delivery of the Safer Sport message through out Australia is achieved through the delivery of courses and education resources for coaches, trainers teachers and students.

SMA has a number of school and community based programs linked to the curriculum, presentations are practical and engaging and we are happy to provide guest speakers to speak to staff and students.

 Sports Medicine Awareness Course (SMAC)

A practical and informative workshop designed specifically for high school students. This workshop aims to develop awareness of the various skills and techniques for injury prevention and management. Links to PES 1A, 1B, 1C, 3A and VET

- Strategies for the prevention of injuries

- Warm Up’s, Stretching and Cool Down’s

Sports Taping Workshop

This fun and practical workshop focuses on educating students to correctly tape an ankle, thumb and finger in preparation for physical activity. Students will learn how to help athletes prevent prevent minor injuries and return to sport, safely.

- Ligament injuries

- Ligament injury grading

- Taping of the ankle, thumb and finger

Return to Play: Rehabilitation of the Injured Athlete (REHAB)

In order to return to play safely after an injury, it is important athletes complete a rehabilitation program. This workshop will teach students rehabilitation methods for common sports injuries, working through interactive and practical case studies. Links to PES 1A, 1C, 1D and 2B.
