School Workshops

Sports Medicine Australia workshops for schools combine the latest instructional strategies with up to date sports medicine information.  Our workshops are directly linked to the national curriculum, focusing on student centred learning.  All of Sports Medicine Australia’s workshops for schools have undergone extensive reformatting to ensure maximum student engagement and curriculum linked content.


Sports Medicine Awareness Course (SMAC)

A practical and informative workshop designed specifically for high school students. This workshop aims to develop awareness of the various skills and techniques for injury prevention and management. Links to PES 1A, 1B, 1C, 3A and VET

Topics Include:

- Strategies for the prevention of injuries

- Warm Up’s, Stretching and Cool Down’s

- Hydration and Physical Activity

- Injury Assessment

- Immediate Injury Management


Sports Taping Workshop

This fun and practical workshop focuses on educating students to correctly tape an ankle, thumb and finger in preparation for physical activity. Students will learn how to help athletes prevent prevent minor injuries and return to sport, safely.

Topics Include:

- Ligament injuries

- Ligament injury grading

- Taping of the ankle, thumb and finger


Return to Play: Rehabilitation of the Injured Athlete (REHAB)

In order to return to play safely after an injury, it is important athletes complete a rehabilitation program. This workshop will teach students rehabilitation methods for common sports injuries, working through interactive and practical case studies. Links to PES 1A, 1C, 1D and 2B.

Topics Include:

- Common sporting injuries

- Components of rehabilitation

- Exercise prescription

Nutrition Workshops – Sports Nutrition (Secondary School)

A practical and informative workshop designed specifically for high school students. This workshop educates students in the relationship between nutrition and physical activity. Links to PES 1D, 3A and VET.

Topics Include:

- Nutritional considerations (Glycemic Index)

- Carbohydrates, Fat and Protein

- Nutritional and energy demands in physical activity

- Pre, during and post event

Drugs in Sport

This informative workshop is designed specifically for secondary students. Participants will develop an awareness of the effects of drugs and their effects on sporting performance.

Topics Include:

- Effects of social drugs on sporting performance

- Ethics and drugs in sport

- Current cases and issues
