Nationally Recognised Training Courses

SMA NT as part of the national Sports Medicine Australia Federation is a Registered Training Organisation.  SMA NT holds the following accredited courses throughout the year – Provide First Aid (HLTAID003) and Provide CPR (HLTAID001).  More information about these courses is below: 

 

Provide First Aid (HLTAID003) – Blended Learning Program

A comprehensive yet simple course that applies to any environment; home, work, sport, and everyday situations.

Provide First Aid is the minimum qualification required for the workplace first aider and for those providing first aid to Sports.  This course also provides a learning pathway to becoming an SMA Sports Trainer.  This course is ideal as a first time first aid or refresher course.

The Provide First Aid Blended Learning Program enables students to learn the fundamental principles of first aid at their own pace, through an online training resource. The knowledge is then consolidated and assessed at a one day practical workshop.

Please note: Students MUST successfully complete the online course prior to attending the  one day workshop.

Course duration: 4-8 hours (e-learning) PLUS 8-9 Hours practical workshop. 

Content:

             DRSABCD action plan

             Managing the unconscious, breathing casualty

             Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

             Choking

             Wounds and bleeding

             Burns

             Management of medical emergencies including chest pain, asthma, anaphylaxis, diabetes, strokes, seizures, hyperventilation and fainting

             Shock

             Heat and cold induced illness

             Safety and risk management

             Strains, sprains, dislocations and fractures

             Head, neck and spinal injuries

             Chest and abdominal injuries

             Facial and eye injuries

             Poisons

             Bites and stings

             Legal issues

             Infection control

             Defibrillation

             First aid kits

A Statement of Attainment will be issued upon successful completion of the course for HLTAID003 Provide First Aid.

Prerequisites: The self-paced online training program must be completed prior to course commencement.

Access to the online learning component will be provided after payment of the course fee has been received.  Please allow sufficient time between enrolment and the practical workshop, to complete the online component.

 

Provide CPR (HLTAID001)Blended Learning Program

A comprehensive yet simple course that applies to any environment; home, work, sport, and everyday situations.

Perform CPR is the most important aspect of First Aid, and is due to be updated every twelve months in order to remain current.  This course is ideal for the workplace first aider and for those providing first aid to Sports.  This course also provides a learning pathway to becoming an SMA Sports Trainer.

This course is ideal as a CPR refresher course.

The Provide CPR Blended Learning Program enables students to learn the fundamental principles of first aid at their own pace, through an online training resource. The knowledge is then consolidated and assessed at a practical workshop.

Please note: It is essential that students successfully complete the online course prior to attending the Provide CPR workshop.

Course duration: 1-2 hours (e-learning) PLUS 2 Hours practical workshop.

Content: 

•         To describe the skills and knowledge required to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. 

A Statement of Attainment will be issued upon successful completion of the course for HLTAID001 Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
