FREE Sports Trainer Professional Development Workshop – Knee Injuries.  Monday 10th March

FREE Sports Safety Workshop – Coming up this March 2014 in Gove and Jabiru.

Sports Medicine Australia has been granted funding by the Northern Territory Government to provide a FREE Sports Safety one-day workshop, to be held in Gove and Jabiru this March. This one-day workshop will combine the SMA Women in Contact Sport series with a Sports Taping workshop.  It will aim to educate athletes and support staff about gender differences that may need to be taken into account when engaging in sport in a fun and empowering way, so that they may have the knowledge and confidence to advise others and lead their team and clubs to a safer sporting environment in the NT. The program includes:

  • Body and Blows – Basic anatomy, body systems and gender physiological differences
  • Common injuries and preventative measures
  • Practical Prevention – techniques for landing, falling, tackling, balance, strength and conditioning (practical component)
  • The horrid hormones – how hormones can affect sporting performance, contraception, PMS, the need to stay active, exercise during menstruation.
  • Concussion and Nutrition
  • Taping for Sport – an introduction to the use of sports tape, and practical taping of the ankle, thumb and finger

FREE Talk Sport: Issues Impacting Performance Forum, Monday 7th April 4pm-9pm, Charles Darwin University Casuarina CampusSports Medicine Australia NT Branch has been granted funding by the Northern Territory Government to provide a FREE educational forum this Youth Week.  This forum will combine the knowledge of four specialists in their field, to be presented to young men and women aged twelve to twenty-five with an interest in sport, exercise and health so that they may gain the confidence, professional connections and knowledge to make positive choices in their lives. The program includes:

  • Body Image and Mental Health – Liz Grylls, NTIS Sports Psychologist
  • Womens Sports Health – Kim Crawford, practising Physiotherapist
  • Food for Sport – Richard Sager, founder of Darwin Dietitians and practising Dietitian
  • Drugs in Sport – Dr. Jim Lee, Charles Darwin University Exercise and Sports Science lecturer
