Schools Program – SMA ACT is proud to be part of the healthy schools network

“Sideline Help” is a great short course which brings basic principles of first aid and sports medicine to student. Students can gain a greater awareness of the prevention, assessment, management and referral processes of sporting injuries which can not only be applied to meet the requirements of electives within the curriculum, but also provide a safe playing environment within the school system.

“Strap Smart” is a great practical 2 hour workshop for the students to learn the basic principles of taping the ankle, thumb and finger. This short workshop is hands on and students receive a handout and certificate of completion.

We deliver a number of courses within the Education & Care Setting around Canberra. As the leaders in our field we pride ourselves in keeping up-to-date with the latest trends and information. All our lecturers work in various setting within the first aid industry allowing us to contextualise our group training bringing real examples into the scenarios.

Child First Aid
Designed for parents, carers, and grandparents

80% of childhood injuries occur in the home. This non-accredited course is designed to teach parents and caregivers how to respond calmly to the most common first aid emergency situations around the home and playground. This 3 hour flexible workshop will provides the confidents to act quickly in the moments after an emergency. These precise moments can save your child’s life whilst waiting for professional assistance.

Courses are held for mothers groups, child care centres, parents groups, play groups and are breastfeeding and younger children friendly.  We can accommodate for small or large groups. Topics covered include, Anaphylaxis, Burns, Choking, CPR, Drowning, Fevers, Head Injury & MORE. Discussion will cover the most common causes of injury in the home, give tips on how to prevent them and ideas for your home first aid kits.

Kids First Aid Awarness Talks

Book Winnie the Pooh to come to your school, early learning centre, child care centre and talk to the children in a fun and interactive way. He will bring his freind Henry who is a Raiders supporter and has a sore leg from his last game. Contact our office to arrange for Winnie and Henry to talk to the children.
