Become a Sports First Aider and Sports Trainer
The SMA State Branches are responsible for the delivery of Safer Sport Program (SSP) courses that will train you to become a Sports First Aider or Sports Trainer.
There are three main courses :
Sports First Aid
The Sports First Aid course is a 9 hour course of which more than half is dedicated to practical sessions. The course covers topics such as Basic Life Support, Prevention of Injury, Assessment and Immediate Management of Sporting Injuries and Crisis Management.
All participants receive a Statement of Attainment in Apply First Aid.
Level 1 Sports Trainer
The Level 1 Sports Trainers course involves 16 hours of lecture and practical sessions in subjects such as management of specific sporting injuries, warm up, stretching and cool downs, taping and nutrition.
Participants receive a 3 year National accreditation.
Pre-requisite: Current first aid certificate.
Combined SFA and Level 1 Sports Trainers Course
Designed for people who want to become a Sports Trainer who have not yet completed theĀ pre-requisite of a first aid certificate, this course is an ideal way to fast track your learning of sports medicine by doing two courses in one.
Level 2 Sports Trainer
The Level 2 Sports Trainers course is a progression from Level 1. It is designed to give the active sports trainer the flexibility to structure the course to suit their own needs by offering optional modules in addition to a compulsory core module.
Prerequisite: Current Level 1 Sports Trainers accreditation, 12 months experience and 50 hours practical field experience.
