Continuing Education
The Continuing Education Seminar Series is designed to educate the sporting community with the most up to date sports medicine principles such as injury prevention and management in order to make sport safer.
The program consists of 3 hour, non-accredited seminars including:
Pre and Post Game Massage Seminar – FULL
This is a practical and informative seminar will introduce participants to the different massage strokes and techniques for pre and post event massage. To be presented by Christine O’Connor.
Course Date: Wednesday 29th May
Time: 6.30pm – 9.30pm
Sports Taping
This practical workshop for Sports Trainers will teach the most up to date taping techniques for managing lower leg pain. Taping techniques include Low-Dye, Achilles and Shin Taping.

Spinal Management
This course has been designed to equip First Aider’s and Sports Trainers with the skills necessary to manage and provide support for suspected spinal injuries and the management of casualty(s), until the arrival of medical or other assistance, and provision of support to other providers. Upon successful completion of all assessment tasks, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for PUAEME004A – Provide emergency care for suspected spinal injury.
Pre-requisite
Current First Aid Certificate (HLTFA311A – Apply First Aid or equivalent)

Advanced Sports Taping
This practical and informative seminar is designed to introduce participants to common sporting injuries of the knee and shoulder and the associated taping techniques to help athletes return to play safely.

Time: 10.00am – 1.00pm
*This is a compulsory unit for the Level 2 Sports Trainer Course.
Advanced Resuscitation
This course has been designed to equip First Aider’s with the skills necessary to deal with the provision of advanced resuscitation techniques, life support and management of casualty(s), until the arrival of medical or other assistance, and provision of support to other providers. Upon successful completion of all assessment tasks, participants will receive the SMA Advanced Resuscitation Accreditation and a Statement of Attainment for HLTFA404C – Apply Advanced Resuscitation Techniques.

Introduction to Sports Massage
This is a practical and informative seminar will introduce participants to the different massage strokes and techniques, working posture and hygiene and pre and post game massage. It is run in conjunction with the Barry Harwood Study Centre for Health and Healing Awareness. Barry is the foremost national expert, and internationally known for his massage techniques.

Massage Techniques for Below the Knee
Run in conjunction with the Barry Harwood Study Centre for Health and Healing Awareness. This workshop introduces participants to massage for the lower limb region. This looks at specific techniques for common injuries such as ankle, Achilles and shin splits. This includes strokes and techniques as well as working posture and hygiene. This is a hand-on seminar where participants will get to practice demonstrated techniques on other participants.
