Continuing Education
The Continuing Education Seminar Series is designed to educate the sporting community with the most up to date sports medicine principles such as injury prevention and management in order to make sport safer.
The program consists of 3 hour, non-accredited seminars including:
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
This course provides the skills to recognise and manage a casualty who is unconscious and not breathing. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is a life saving skill that can sustain life until an ambulance arrives.
CPR is one of the least practised but the most vital skill of a First Aider. SMA therefore recommends is line with the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, that CPR is updated every 12months.
The course provides participants with a Statement of Attainment in the unit of competency HLTCPR201A – Perform CPR.
Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites for this course
Course Duration: The CPR course is involves 3 hours of theoretical and practical sessions.
Drugs in Sport
This free seminar is designed specifically for support personnel who are working with sporting teams.
Know your responsibilities as a Sports Trainer when administering medications and gain a better understanding of the World Anti-doping Policy and it’s effect on you.
Topics Include:
- Support Staff Obligations
- Classifications
- Performance Enhancing Drugs
- Illicit Drugs
- Alcohol

Sports Taping
Dates:
- Wednesday 8th August
Time: 6.30pm – 9.30pm
This practical and informative seminar will show you how you can prevent and manage common sporting injuries. Participants will learn a variety of taping techniques to help athletes return to play safely.
This seminar is a unit for the Level 2 Sports Trainer CourseIntroduction to Sports Massage
Dates:
- Saturday 28th July
Time: 10.00am – 1.00pm
Run in conjuction with the Barry Harwood Study Centre for Health and Healing Awareness. Barry is the foremost national expert, and internationally known for massage techniques. This workshop will introduce participants the different massage strokes & techniques, working posture & hygiene and pre & post game massage.
This seminar is a unit for the Level 2 Sports Trainer CourseDeep Tissue Massage
Date: Saturday 28th July
Time: 2.00pm – 5.00pm
Run in conjuction with the Barry Harwood Study Centre for Health and Healing Awareness. Barry is the foremost national expert, and internationally known for massage techniques. This workshop will introduce participants to deep tissue massage. Includes massage strokes & techniques and the difference between deep pressure and deep tissue massage.
Spinal, Concussion & Dental Injury Management
Dates:
- Wednesday 22nd August
Time: 6.30pm – 9.30pm
This seminar will help alleviate some of the concerns surrounding spinal injuries & concussion in sport. Learn to recognise the signs, symptoms and how to manage suspected spinal injuries. This seminar also includes the management of dental injuries.
This is a unit for the Level 2 Sports Trainer CourseAdvanced Resuscitation

Time: 6.30pm – 9.30pm
This practical seminar teaches participants how to use vital life saving devices such as oxygen.
Pre – requisite: Current CPR Certifcate – HLTCPR201A – Perform CPR
All participants receive a Statement of Attainment in Apply Advanced Resuscitation Techniques – HLTFA404B
This is a unit for the Level 2 Sports Trainer CourseStrength and Conditioning for Sports Performance
This Workshop will introduce participants to Basic Strength, Conditioning & Rehab Techniques.
Topics Include:
- Program structure
- Integrating strength and skill training
- Age considerations
- Core strength training
- Latest techniques
