1. How long does it take to receive my Sports Medicine Australia accreditation once I have completed a course?

All accreditation’s are processed through Sports Medicine Australia – Victorian Branch (SMA – VIC). Course participants will receive both their accreditation card and certificate within 4-6 weeks of completing a course, provided they have sent a copy of a current Level 1 or 2 First Aid Certificate to SMA-VIC.

2. How long does the Sports First Aid, Level 1 and Level 2 Sports Trainer Accreditation last for?

Both the Level 1 Sports Trainer and Sports First Aid Accreditation’s expire after three years of completing a course, expiring at the end of the month the Accreditation corresponds to, ie. if an Accreditation was completed in March 2007 it will expire at the end of March 2010.

3. Can I still complete a Level 1 Sports Trainer course if I do not satisfy the first aid prerequisite?

Yes, Sports Medicine Australia does allow for prospective sports trainers to complete a Level 1 Sports Trainer course if they have not:

a) Completed a Sports First Aid course.

b) Do not have a current Level 1 or 2 First Aid Certificate.

However, all participants must send a copy of a current Level 1 or 2 First Aid Certificate to SMA-VIC before they can receive their SMA Accreditation.

4. Am I covered by public liability insurance or professional indemnity once I have completed a SMA Accredited course?

Being accredited does not provide you with insurance. Sports Medicine Australia offers both membership and insurance for all course participants who have completed SMA Accredited courses, excluding Sports First Aid.

5. Can SMA-VIC co-ordinate a course at my sporting club/association OR secondary/tertiary educational institution?

Yes. SMA-VIC co-ordinates numerous courses across Victoria (metropolitan and regional venues) for specific groups including sports clubs, schools, TAFE colleges, sporting leagues and community groups. Whilst discounted rates may apply, SMA-VIC requires a minimum of ten course participants.

6. Does SMA-VIC have a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Policy?

The Level 2 Sports Trainer course does recognise prior learning for courses completed at other organisations. For more information click here. However SMA does not recognise prior learning for any other SSP courses.

7. Are there any age requirements for SMA-VIC Accredited courses?

Candidates for Sports First Aid and Level 1 Sports Trainer courses must be at least 16 years of age on the date the course requirements are completed to be eligible for accreditation.
