Conferences and Events

SMA-VIC runs a number of professional development events and general community and member education workshops that provide the opportunity to enhance knowledge and skills in all areas of sports medicine. Some of the major events include:

SMX

The Victorian Conference of Science and Medicine in Sport and Exercise (SMX) is the biggest event on SMA-VIC’s calendar. Held annually in June, this conference aims to provide knowledge and practice of Science and Medicine in Sport and Exercise through an interactive and inter-disciplinary education forum of the highest standard. Our conference is unique in that all delegates who attend share toe goal of enhancing the safe participation, performance and well being of Australians engaged in sport and exercise. The conference also provides industry sponsors and exhibitors the opportunity to promote their products, services and organisation to the leading sports medicine and science practitioners in Victoria.

STC

The Victorian Sports Trainers Conference (STC) provides the opportunity to advance both the practical and theoretical skills of accredited Sports Trainers, ensuring they continue to update their knowledge through both theoretical sessions and practical workshops. A trade exhibition is included in STC to provide Sports Trainers with the opportunity to hear about the latest in sports trainer tools and products.

Café Series

The Café Series is a program made up of a number of seminars that are held in the relaxed atmosphere of a café. The format of the seminars encourages medical professionals to be actively involved in discussion about relevant health and sport topics, and also provide a fantastic networking opportunity for the multi-discipline audience.

CISM

The aim of the Careers in Sports Medicine and Science Seminar (CISM) is to provide an insight into the various medical professions that work to prevent and manage sports injuries for students from year 10 through to tertiary level. Lectures are presented by Victoria’s leading sports medicine professionals who explain how they got to where they are and what it is like to work with some of Australia’s top athletes. A series of short presentations on the following professions are covered: Medicine, Physiotherapy, Sports Science/Human Movement, Podiatry, Dietetics, Osteopathy and Psychology.
