Safer Sport Overview
SMA-ACT, through its Safer Sport Program, provides education courses on injury prevention and management, with the philosophy of providing a safe environment for all people who engage in sport to maximise participation in sport and physical activity.
The Safer Sport courses are provided with an emphasis on gaining practical skills in injury prevention, good nutrition, injury management and crisis management techniques that can be used in the sporting environment. Over 1,000 sporting volunteers & 200 fitness trainers undertake accredited courses each year delivered by SMA-ACT. 200 students participate through school based programs and over 3000 students undertake our accredited programs with CIT & UC.
The majority of courses are co-ordinated in conjunction with various sporting associations and clubs, secondary and tertiary educational institutions, and regional sports assemblies, however the courses are open to anyone.
Goals and objectives
The main goal of Safer Sport Program is to increase the general community’s awareness of the prevention, assessment, management and referral of sporting injuries. It is designed to educate people involved in sport and physical activity in the basic principles of first aid and sports medicine.
