2016 ACT Sport Symposium

Dr Philo Saunders

Dr Philo Saunders completed a Bachelor of Applied Science at RMIT University, First Class Honours in Physiology at the University of Melbourne and earned his PhD in Exercise Physiology at RMIT University based at the Australian Institute of Sport. Philo Saunders

He is a Senior Physiologist at the Australian Institute of Sport working with Athletics, Swimming and Modern Pentathlon. His areas of expertise include altitude training, heat training, physiology of endurance sports, distance running training, running mechanics and strength training for runners.

He has performed extensive research on the physiological aspects associated with endurance sports performance, published over 50 articles in peer reviewed journals, 5 book chapters, and presented as an invited speaker at 4 international conferences.

Philo has also been a top ranked middle distance runner in Australia over the past decade and coaches a group of elite middle distance/distance runners in Canberra at an international level and has been the Australian team middle distance coach at the 2015 IAAF World Athletics Championships (Beijing), 2015 IPC World Athletics Championships (Doha), 2014 Commonwealth Games (Glasgow) and 2013 IPC World Athletics Championships (Lyon).

This Symposium is jointly presented by SMA ACT & AIS and will be held at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 March 2016.
