Community concussion seminars coming to North Coast

Residents on the North Coast of New South Wales will have the opportunity to experience the latest concussion research and build vital concussion knowledge as Sports Medicine Australia joins Headsafe to present the Concussion Community Roadshow in September.

The seminars begin on Tuesday September 13th in Port Macquarie and run across the North Coast, finishing in Tweed Heads on Wednesday September 21st.

The seminars will showcase the latest concussion research featuring the HeadSafe Randwick Rugby Project which includes the unique X Patch Biosensor and practical advice for teams, players, administrators and parents, which is crucial at all levels of sport.

The Concussion Roadshow will be spearheaded by Dr. Adrian Cohen who is the founder of HeadSafe and NeckSafe. Dr. Cohen also joined SMA this season to provide concussion education to all NRL trainers

SMA NSW State Manager Mitch Jarvis says the need for anyone associated with sport to have updated concussion knowledge is more important than ever.

“As we continue to understand more about the dangers of concussion in sport, participants need to learn the skills to identify, assess and manage suspected concussions.

“The seminars will feature up-to-date concussion research available and with practical advice, attendees of all backgrounds can be confident that they will develop skills to deal with a sports concussion.” Mr Jarvis said.

Dr. Cohen has had a long and distinguished career in concussion research and he will bring his extensive knowledge and experience to the seminars.

“Dr. Cohen is one of the preeminent concussion experts in Australia, there aren’t many better sports medicine experts to learn from,” said Mr. Jarvis
