New position statement on exercise and chronic heart failure

Exercise & Sports Science Australia Position Statement on exercise training and chronic heart failure has been published in the May 2010 edition of SMA’s Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport.

The statement aims to inform and guide exercise practitioners and health professionals in the safe and effective prescription and supervision of patients with chronic heart failure.

Chronic heart failure is a complex condition characterised by progressive decline in the ability of the heart, low exercise tolerance and low aerobic power. Its overall prevalence in Australia is approximately 2.5% in people aged 55-64 to 8.2% in those aged 75 years and over.
